General Network setup

LREI does not endorse any specific products and believes the best parental control is open communication, but families have shared they have had success with some of options below.

OpenDNS

Free

OpenDNS is a service that offers free, simple, and effective web filtering for your entire home wifi network, or for any individual device. You can find instructions for setting up OpenDNS on your entire network or just one or two devices here. It is a bit of work to get it setup up initially, but completely hands-off from there.

Google WiFi

$ One Time Purchase Fee

Google Wifi is a home network wi-fi system, from Google. It allows you to manage your home Wi-Fi using the Google Home app from your phone. You can use the app to control online time for kids and block explicit content. Here is a quick video on how Google Wifi works.

Circle

$$ Device and Subscription Fee

Circle is a device that connects to your router to manage every Internet-connected device on your home network. With Circle, you use an app to manage your mobile devices (iOS and Android) and can control screen time, content filtering, and much more. It requires a paid subscription, but has many useful features and settings.
